eBook Haul | Contemporary Romances, DRCs, and an accidental purchase

divider

Contemporary Romance is the theme this week. I got some new releases, Digital Review Copies and some picks influenced by Reddit and Instagram. Contemporary Romance isn’t my favourite genre but there’s something about nice weather that always makes me want to read it. So, when the sun makes an appearance I start thinking about my summer reading and hauling some lightish-hearted reads.

Ten Trends to Seduce Your Bestfriend by Penny Reid

Holy crap but was I excited for this book!! I was literally sitting up in bed waiting for the stroke of midnight so I could start reading it straight away Monday night. I’m not ashamed (well I’m a little bit ashamed….) to say I stayed up until 5am reading it. It was totally worth being a zombie all of the next day. I’ll have my full review up as soon as I sort through my thoughts but I freaking loved it. LOVED IT!!!!!

Ten Trends to Seduce Your Bestfriend by Penny Reid

Winnifred Gobaldi and Byron Visser are not best friends.

Yes, they’ve known each other for years, but they’re not even friendly. Winnie considers them more like casual, distant acquaintances who find each other barely tolerable, especially when he’s being condescending (which is all the time).

The truth is, they have nothing in common. She’s a public school science teacher with stars in her eyes, and he’s a pretentious, joyless double PhD turned world-famous bestselling fiction author. She loves sharing her passion for promulgating women in STEM careers and building community via social media, and he eschews all socialization, virtual or otherwise. She’s looking for a side hustle to help pay down a mountain of student debt, and his financial portfolio is the stuff of fiduciary wet dreams. So why are they faking a #bestfriend relationship for millions of online spectators?

When a simple case of tit-for-tat trends between nonfriends leads to a wholly unexpected kind of pretend, nothing is simple. Sometimes, it takes a public audience to reveal the truth of private feelings, and rarely—very rarely—you should believe what you see online.

Ten Trends to Seduce Your Bestfriend is a full-length, complete standalone, adult contemporary romantic comedy.

Homecoming King by Penny Reid

So, I preordered Ten Trends to Seduce Your Bestfriend by Penny Reid on Kobo but the release date got pushed forward and on the original release day, for whatever reason, Kobo charged me for the book and sent me Homecoming King. I was going to return it since it wasn’t the book I wanted but figured I’d keep it since I would more than likely end up getting it at some point anyway.

Homecoming King by Penny Reid

Rex “TW” McMurtry’s perpetual single-hood wouldn’t bother him so much if all his ex-girlfriends didn’t keep marrying the very next person they dated, especially when so many of those grooms are his closest friends. He may be a pro-football defensive end for the Chicago Squalls, but the press only wants to talk about how he’s always a groomsman and never a groom. Rex is sick of being the guy before the husband, and he’s most definitely sick of being the best man at all their weddings.

Bartender Abigail McNerny is the gal-pal, the wing-woman, the she-BFF. She’s dated. Once. And once was more than enough. Privy to all the sad stories of her customers, ‘contentment over commitment’ is her motto, and Abby is convinced no one on earth could ever entice her into a romantic relationship . . . except that one guy she’s loved since preschool.

The guy who just walked into her bar.

The guy who doesn’t recognize her.

The guy who is drunk and needs a ride home.

The guy who has a proposition she should definitely refuse.

Kiss Hard by Nalini Singh

This is a DRC from NetGalley due for release in May. I haven’t read any of Singh’s contemporary romances but I love her paranormal books so I figured I’d give this a try. I’m an absolute sucker for enemies-to-lovers but I’m not big on sports romances. I’m hoping there won’t be too much sports talk…

Kiss Hard by Nalini Singh

New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh brings you a sinfully playful contemporary romance between two sworn enemies turned partners in crime…

Daniel Esera is a young god on the rugby field, a sexy and charming man who’s got the world at his feet. There’s just one problem: his sudden potent attraction to his number one nemesis–Catie River. No. Just no. Not happening.

Catie River is on her way to Paralympic gold, and she’s not about to allow Danny “Hotshot” Esera to derail her plans. Too bad her body isn’t cooperating. Even worse? Her heart might be coming along for the ride. No. Nope. Never.

The pair are united in their desire to remain enemies… until a stranger’s reckless action threatens both their careers. Now, the only way out for Catie and Danny is to pretend to be in a relationship. How bad can it be? They’re adults in full control of their hormones and their hearts. There will be no kissing. No PDA. And definitely no falling in love.

Let the games begin.

The Doctor by Nikki Sloane

This is another r/RomanceBooks purchase. I often see people raving about this author and books from this series in particular so I had to get it. I believe her books are on the steamier side.

The Doctor by Nikki Sloane

For years, he was a part of my life. I watched him rush to the hospital countless times, his beautiful surgeon hands racing to save lives.

After all this time, I can’t escape the truth.

I want Dr. Lowe.

Lust chokes each moment we’re together. He promises to fulfill my fantasies—every dirty, naughty desire we can dream up.

Only, I can’t have him.

He’s confident. Experienced. Seductive.

And he’s my ex-boyfriend’s father.

Make Me Forget by Kennedy Fox

I’ve seen Kennedy Fox mentioned a few times on the RomaneBooks Reddit but it was their Instagram account that really pushed me to get one of their books. They post so many enticing Reels on their Instagram. It helped that this book was available for free at the time as well.

Make Me Forget by Kennedy Fox

Never trust a man who answers the door wearing nothing more than a pair of low-cut jeans and a panty-melting smirk.

Being a romance novelist comes with its perks but when Ethan Rochester enters my life and interrupts my solo writing retreat, my world turns upside down.

I write about guys like him for a living—sexy and charming, yet reluctant to get into a serious relationship. His body’s the ultimate temptation, but his condescending personality makes him a notorious heartbreaker.

When we’re forced to be neighbors, he makes me forget my rules, and soon my upcoming deadline isn’t the only thing I’m dreading.

*Can be read as a complete stand-alone! Formally titled Falling for the Bad Boy. Content has not changed.*
