Five Favourite Things from February

divider

Happy March! I hope you all had a wonderful February. Mine was fine. No major events but a few nice minor ones. I met up with friends, had a date night with himself, and enjoyed the first signs of Spring in the garden. It’s so nice to see the daffodils start to flower along the driveway. They’re not my favourite flower (not a fan of yellow) but I do love seeing them all lining the drive on sunny Spring days.

Favourite Book | A Light in the Flame by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Now, I haven’t actually finished this book and don’t plan on it at the moment. I’m at about 90% and the characters are about to set off on a mission/journey so it feels like a natural place to stop while I wait for the next book. I’m stopping because I have noticed Armentrout likes to end these books on cliffhangers or moments that have me chewing at the bit for the next book. I don’t know if she does this with A Light in the Flame but I’d rather not go through it again so I’m going to wait patiently for the next book before finishing this one.

Favourite Recipe | Steak with Pepper Sauce

This was an impromptu but very delicious meal. I used Erin Pepper Sauce mix cause I wasn’t planning on making us a fancy steak dinner. There’s nothing wrong with using sauce mixes. It’s just that all those internet chef people make me feel like I should be mixing my own sauces all the time. I mixed up some fried onion and mushroom in the sauce which was so freaking delicious! For the baby potatoes, I boiled them to almost cooked then tossed them in olive oil, garlic and mixed herbs and finished them off in the air fryer (greatest kitchen gadget ever). They were yummy but a little overcooked. The steak was on offer in Tesco and had pepper along the sides. Himself loves rare steak so I have been on a mission for years to cook a good one and I finally did it. I’ve always been afraid of undercooking it and making everyone sick so I invested in a meat thermometer. Not really an investment cause they’re not expensive but it’s so freaking useful. I use it all the time. It’s really great for when I’m cooking a big roast. Anyway, back to the steak. I followed the instructions of a few Google search answer things (you know those drop-down question results that come up when you type a question into Google…..). I took the steak out of the fridge about 40 minutes before cooking, letting it get to room temperature. I heated the frying pan to smoking hot, added a light coating of olive oil to each side of the steak, seared both sides for about 30 seconds, and then cooked each side for about 2 minutes. When the internal temperature of each steak was 50°c I removed them from the heat and let them rest inside the warm air fryer. The potatoes were finished cooking at this stage so I just sat the steaks on top of them. I didn’t time how long they were resting. It was just how long it took me to set the table.

I was so proud of those dang steaks. Himself said they were perfect 😁 Steak is hard work for me to eat (I have tender teeth from clenching my jaw and used to be vegetarian so it’s just a lot of meat for me) so we won’t be doing this often but it was nice to make our regular dinner a little bit more special.

Favourite Journaling Item | CrafTreat Leaf and Flower Stencils

I am OBSESSED with this stencil set from CrafTreat on Amazon. I got the 6×6 size which is perfect for working in a junk journal but they have stencils in larger sizes for other craft projects. I mostly use these with white gesso but I recently started using coloured acrylic paints as well. I prefer the white gesso cause it gives me more wiggle room as I continue to journal. Anyway, I highly recommend checking out this shop on Amazon. They have an amazing selection of stencils.

Favourite Movie | Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania

We went to see Ant-Man for our date night in February and we freaking loved it! We’re both Marvel nuts (himself especially) so we were bound to enjoy it but I really really enjoyed it. I can’t wait to watch it again! I love the direction the MCU is going in now.

Favourite Game | Monster Prom

My first time playing a dating sim! I’ve always been a bit weirded out by this type of game but I really shouldn’t have been so judgy. This was a lot of fun! It’s a choose-your-own-adventure-style game where you interact with the characters and then ask someone to prom. Rejection stings but it’s kind of more interesting when they say no and you end up in a weird storyline. My first playthrough I ended up almost getting beat up and then sent to live on a chicken farm! It’s an adult game (because of swearing, not sexual content) that felt like an interactive paranormal romance or urban fantasy book. I feel like those apps like Chapters and Choices should be more like this game instead of the money-mining book ruiners they seem to be (based on my limited experience with the app Chapters).
