Five Favourite Things from August

Hello September! I am delighted to be heading into autumn at last. I love summer but autumn is by far my favourite season. It has my birthday (which I’m liking less and less the closer to 40 I get), the cosiest weather for reading, and crunchy orange and brown leaves everywhere. I will miss reading outside on my sun lounger though. I didn’t read as much as I hoped this summer but I did read a few gems.

August was a good month even though I ended up in the hospital again. It was a short trip and I was feeling 1000 times better than I did in June and July. I adjusted to my new diet and treated myself to some new makeup. I’m not as into makeup as I was in my 20s but I still love getting my hands on some.

Favourite Book – The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This was one of those rare books that I could tell I would freaking love after the first page. And I did love it but I had a few issues with the FMC’s fatal flaw. Lying is probably the most annoying obstacle to a relationship in a romance and this girl would just not stop! The author does acknowledge that it’s going on a lot but I still found it quite frustrating. I still absolutely loved this book but that element took it from a 5-star read to a 4.

Favourite Recipe – Vegan Cheese Sauce

I made this a bit differently to the lads here but it worked out really well for me as a substitute for cheese. It was delicious on some homemade pizza. To make a low-fat version safe for my gallstones, I used skimmed milk instead of plant milk and a tablespoon of low-fat dairy spread instead of olive oil. The low-fat dairy spread is still too high in fat for my gallstones but as part of the “cheese” sauce, it seems to be ok.

Favourite Journaling Item – Summer’s End Kit

I mentioned this kit in my recent Etsy haul post and I just want to highlight it again cause I really do freaking LOVE this kit! The papers are just so beautiful. I do wish there were a few more ephemera pieces but there are so many papers included it’s easy to make up my own. I highly recommend this kit if you’re working on a summer memories journal like me. Ink and Page also have some fabulous Halloween and autumn kits in their Etsy shop. I just got my hands on The Raven Junk Journal Kit which I am very excited to start working on.

Favourite TV Show – Clickbait on Netflix

Holy moly, this show was unreal!!! It was so mysterious and twisty turny. I devoured it two days I simply couldn’t stop watching. The mystery is so intriguing and I didn’t suspect the baddie at all. It’s very rare that a murder mystery can surprise you like that.

Favourite Cosmetics – Morphe 350 Supernatural Glow Eyeshadow Palette

This is some of the new makeup I treated myself to recently. I don’t wear makeup often but when I buy it I always feel like I’m doing something nice for myself. Getting myself a little something that’s feminine and unnecessary but is a way of taking care of myself. Of course, nobody needs to wear makeup but it often makes me feel like I’m taking care of myself. Taking pride in my appearance and putting in a little bit of time and effort to look after myself. There was a time a few years ago when I completely stopped caring about all of this stuff. I stopped caring about all cosmetics and clothes and totally let myself go. I gained over 60lbs and my skin and health were in a bad way. So now, after going through that, I can see the value in an eyeshadow palette.
