It’s that time of year again! I love doing this tag each year. It’s great for seeing how your reading has been going for the year. This year my reading has been a bit off…. I couldn’t focus on reading in March or April but it’s picking up now.

Best book you’ve read so far in 2020
Storm and Fury by Jennifer L. Armentrout. Oh, my god, I loved this so much! I got completely sucked into this book…. it was a bit unhealthy to be honest. I was way too invested in the characters lol
Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2020
Murder on the Ballarat Train by Kerry Greenwood. I’ve read very few new sequels this year since my reading has taken a step back with everything that’s been going on and I’ve been mainly rereading. Murder on the Ballarat Train is the second book in Greenwoods Phryne Fisher mystery series which follows socialite Phyrne in 1920’s Australia.
New release you haven’t read yet, but want to

Rage and Ruin by Jennifer L. Armentrout. There are a few books I could say for this but Rage in Ruin is the most recent. The audiobook is saved to my list on Scribd just waiting for me to listen to it but I’m trying to hold off. I got way too into the previous so I’m trying to pace myself a bit with this one. Especially I’ll have to wait at least a year for the final instalment.
Most anticipated release for the second half of the year

Peace Talks by Jim Butcher. This is due out in July so I don’t have much of a wait for it’s release but I probably won’t get it until August or September. It’s been such a long wait for this book. 6 years! I’m going to have to reread the previous book to refresh my memory of the story.
Biggest disappointment
I haven’t really been disappointed by any of my books.
Biggest surprise
Born in Fire by K.F. Breene. I’m often a little weary of fantasy books on Kindle Unlimited (and romance ones actually). There are just so many on there a lot of them turn out to be duds. I read Born in Fire to suit a reading challenge and was really surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It kicked butt!!
Favourite new author (debut or new to you)
Mr Darcy’s Undoing by Abigail Reynolds. This one was hard to hard answer. I have only a handful of new authors on my read list so far this year and none of them really stand out. Abigail Reynolds is a new to me author that writes mainly Pride and Prejudice variations. I read Mr Darcy’s Undoing this year which is a “what if Lizzie agreed to marry someone else” variation. It was pretty good and I plan on reading more by her. She’s written a fairy variation I have saved on my Scribd.
Newest fictional crush

North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell. Like I said above I haven’t been reading much and I’ve been doing a lot of rereading so no new crushes but it was great to revisit Mr Thornton in North and South. I listened to an abridged audiobook one night when I couldn’t sleep so I don’t really count it as having read the book again. It was like reading my favourite chapters again.
Newest favourite character
Born in Fire by K.F. Breene. It’s gotta be Reagan the main character from this series. She is so quick witted and fearless.
Book that made you cry
No crying for me so far this year I’m happy to say.
Book that made you happy
Falling for a Dancer by Deirdre Purcell. I started the year with a reread of my favourite book. It never fails to give me the warm fuzzies.
Most beautiful book you’ve acquired this year
I haven’t bought many physical books this year but I did get a few McMillian Collector’s Library editions. I love the compact size of these books and the artwork they use. They have a beautiful blue cover under the dust jackets as well. I got an edition of Emma by Jane Austen recently for Jane Austen July next month.
What book(s) do you need to read by the end of the year?
All of them…. Not really 😉 I don’t like to pressure myself into reading particular books. The only things I really should read are my NetGalley ARC’s. I have about 3 waiting to be read and reviewed at the moment.

I really need to pick up North and South at some point, I’ve heard great things!

Ahh I’ve heard a lot of mixed review regarding Storm and Fury!! Can I read this Harbringer series without reading A Dark Element series?

Yes, I didn’t read A Dark Element and didn’t notice I was missing a series.
