Hi everyone, it’s wrap up time! June was a pretty good reading month for me. My reading is back to it’s normal rhythm and nothing I read was less than 4 stars.
Storm and Fury (Harbinger #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout
When I started this I did not realise it was a spin off to another trilogy but I don’t think this affected my enjoyment of the book. I didn’t feel like anything was missing from the story or anything like that. I actually think I enjoyed this story a little too much! I got so invested in what was happening to the characters I was literally sitting forward on the edge of my seat reading.
This is an urban fantasy YA series following Trinity Marrow. A girl with special abilities she must keep secret from the people she lives with. It’s an overdone trope but, hey, it works! Trinity lives with gargoyle shape shifters known as Wardens who protect humans from demons. Soon her secret is discovered putting everyone’s lives in danger.
Raised in Fire (Fire and Ice Trilogy #2) by K.F. Breene
The second book in Breene’s Fire and Ice Trilogy and in the Demon Days & Vampire Nights series which I think is a collection of trilogies with bridging characters.
Well I loved this one just as much as the first book! The girl with special abilities trope is going on here too but tropes are good when it comes to genre fiction 😉 This is an urban fantasy series with vampires, demons and witches. The best thing about the series is the characters. They are so well developed and entertaining especially the main character Reagan.
Summer Heat (Cruel Summer #1) by Rachel Van Dyken
The first book in hate to love new adult romance series Cruel Summer from Rachel Van Dyken. Hate to love isn’t the only trope thrown in here though, there’s some second chance romance, unrequited love and bully romance going on as well. Enemies to lovers is definitely the strongest though and I freaking love it!
It’s a quick read but so enjoyable and alluring. Normally I don’t go for angsty books but in this case it’s not too frustrating and actually makes sense. And I LOVE the Dirty Dancing elements.
Be warned, there is a cliffhanger but thankfully the series is completed and available on Kindle Unlimited.
I love Brooks Iron Seas steampunk series but haven’t ventured into any of her other fiction yet. I spotted this stand-alone short story romance on KU and figured I’d give it a go. It’s a paranormal romance featuring Norse mythology concerning frost giants. Olivia and Erik are co-workers that shared a steamy kiss over a year ago but any hope of them being together was quickly pushed aside by Erik. Until they end up snowed in at Erik’s “cabin” and targeted by vengeful werewolves.
The story is around 190 pages so it’s on the longer side for a short-story but I could have done with it being longer. It was so good! I loved the mythology behind it and the unrequited love story.
Wrecked (Iron Seas #3.4) by Meljean Brook
This is a novella set in Brooks fantastic steampunk romance series Iron Seas but it could easily be read separately. The story follows Elizabeth who is on the run from her father after some grossness we won’t get into here. He sends his huntsman, Caius, who Elizabeth has long pined for, to retrieve her. Her father soon catches up with her, forcing her to into some very perilous situations in order to survive and remain free.
It’s a fun story and nice edition to the world.
